Gomantong Born

Crawling, clawing through caves
your breaths grow desperate,
longing for fresh winds,
as you fingers grope
through inches of bat shit.
Millipedes scuttling by unaware;
they have bigger fish to fry.
Camping in a corner clean from waste
haunted by dreams of forest and fresh pools.
Soft slaps of wings hum a lullaby
pierced by the high note of a furry angel
led only by its faith in sound.

Tickled by creatures older than humans immemorial,
scavenging their way through life,
only robbing chaos of its reward,
dawn awakens in your dark mind
as the glow worms bless with light
bestowing the farce of night with a new moon.
Living in darkness you only feel free
as you gaze at their trickery
though the air stays stale and used.
Seeping through rocks your thoughts fly
with the wings you were denied
destined to crawl through shit and cockroaches.

Slithering your way to freedom
as your eyes gaze heavenward
hoping to see time eternal
but facing a glow worm’s butt
ready to kill and trap,
hunting its way to death,

haunting your dreams of an open sky.
