His name was Almost Lover
And we never hooked up
Despite every reason to do so
I shied away despite my comfort in your touch.
There was a buzz of tense electricity
Yet our clothes stayed put.
I cared and yearned as one ought
But never reached the peak, where
The free fall awaited.
I haven’t forgotten,
Almost Lover,
the memory lives with me
In the knapsack of my heart.
Like a hometown you’ll never return to--
Tiny as a postage stamp carrying an epistle.
I loved you in an aborted way
And in spite of all this, I’m writing a poem
To you to let you know.
